So how can Poker Pal help me win?

Simple! All great Poker players use three things to help them win: people knowledge, card knowledge and knowing the odds. The first is a personal skill that needs to be developed over time. Getting a 'feel' for people and how they play their hands. What 'tells' they have and other mannerisms. Knowing the cards is the most basic skill but it's amazing how many novice players still get their Poker hands mixed up! However, when it comes to mathematics and knowing the odds most people fall flat on their faces. Even professional players often have difficulties keeping track of the odds. Here's how it works:

  • Consider a game of Texas Hold'Em. You have been dealt two hearts in the hole and two more hearts appear on the flop. There's $50 in the pot - $20 of which is yours. Should you spend the extra money and try for the flush or would this be a bad bet? Poker Pal will tell you!
  • To put this into perspective, if someone had three cards - one of which is a Queen - and they asked you to pick the Queen from the face down cards, you would have a 2 against 1 chance (or 33.3%) of picking the Queen. Suppose you were asked to place a $1 bet on whether you could pick the Queen and, if successful, you would receive 4-1 odds on your bet, this would be a good bet. Now if you were only going to receive 1-1 odds (even money) on your $1 for picking the Queen it would be a bad bet. This is why knowing the odds is so important. Many times you will have played Poker and made so many bad bets (against the odds) you never realized it.

Is Poker Pal a cheat mechanism?

Certainly not! Poker Pal is simply a tool for providing odds calculations on your Poker hands. It's like having a giant Scarne's book of Poker odds at your fingertips (but much quicker to access!). However, to be ethical, we only authorize use of the software for non-profit purposes.

Additionally, Poker Pal will not tell you when your opponents are bluffing, how much to raise or what cards you'll be dealt next. Poker Pal should be used in conjunction with your existing Poker skills.
