L
Late Position
A position in which you act after most of the other players during
a playing round.
Leak
To leak is to lose back part or all of one's winnings through other
gambling habits.
Leg Up
This is being in a situation equivalent to having won the previous
pot, and thus liable to have to kill the following pot if you win
the current pot.
Limit Poker
A game that has fixed minimum and maximum betting intervals.
Live Blind
A forced bet put in by one or more players before any of the
cards are dealt. The "live" means those players still
have the option of raising when the action gets back to them on
that round.
Live One
An inexperienced, bad or loose player who has plenty of money to
lose.
Lock A hand that cannot lose.
List
The ordered roster of players waiting for a game.
Long Odds
The odds for an event that has a relatively small chance of
occurring.
Lock Up
A chip marker that holds a player's seat.
Loose :
Playing more hands than normal.
Loose Game
A game with loads of players in most hands.
Low Ball
A draw game whereby the lowest hand wins.
Low Card
The lowest upcard at seven-card stud, which is required to
bet.

Maniac
A very aggressive player who plays hands that more conservative
players would probably not consider risking.
Middle Pair
Pairing the second highest card on the board.
Middle Position
A position in which you act somewhere between most of the other
players in the game during a round.
Miss Call
A miss call is an incorrect verbal declaration of the ranking
of a hand.
Miss Deal
A mistake on the dealing of a hand which causes the cards to
be reshuffled and the cards have to be dealt again.
Missed Blind
This is a required bet that is not posted when it is your turn
to do so.
Miss
When you are unable to make your drawing hand when the final
cards are dealt.
Monster
A hand that is almost certain a winning hand.
Must Move
When in order to protect the main game, a situation where the
players of a second game must move into the first game as openings
occur.
Muck
The pile of folded and burned cards in front of the dealer

No Limit
A betting structure where players are allowed to wager any
or all of their chips in one big bet.
No-Limit Poker
This is a game in which players can bet as much as they have
in front of them on any given round.
Nuts
Known for the best possible hand.

Odds
The probability of making a hand versus the probability of
not making the hand.
Offsuit
Two different suits, used to describe the first two cards.
On The Come
A hand that is drawing to a straight or flush.
On Tilt
Playing poorly, usually because of becoming emotionally influenced.
One-Gap
An inside straight.
Open
To make the first bet.
Open-Ended Straight
Four consecutive cards requiring one at either end to make a straight.
Open Card
An exposed card, a card dealt face-up.
Open Poker
These are games where some of the cards are dealt face up.
Opener
The player who made the first bet voluntary.
Opener Button
A button used to indicate which player opened a particular
pot in a draw game.
Openers
In a jacks-or-better draw, the cards held by the player who
opens the pot that show the hand qualifies to be opened.
Option
An Option is the choice to raise a bet given to a player with
a blind.
Overblind
A blind used in some pots that is bigger than the regular big
blind, and usually increases the stakes proportionally. This is
also called oversize blind.
Overcard
A hole card that is higher than any of the other cards on the
board.
Overpair
Two hole cards paired and higher than any of the other cards
on the board.
One-Gap
A hold'em starting hand in which the two cards are two apart
in rank.
Out
A card remaining in the deck that could hopefully improve your
playing hand.
Outrun
To beat.
Overcall
To call a bet after one or more others players have already
called.
Overcard
A card higher than any card on the board.
Overpair
A pocket pair higher than any card on the flop. If you have
Q-Q and the flop comes J-7-2, you have an overpair.

Paint Cards
King, Queen and Jack ie face cards, court cards or picture
cards.
Pair
A Pair are two cards of the same denomination.
Pass
Fold.
Pat
Not drawing any cards in a draw game.
Pay Off
To call a bet or raise when you don't think you have the
best hand.
Picture Cards
King, Queen and Jack; face cards; court cards; paint cards.
Pip
The suit symbols on a non-court card, indicating its value
Play Behind
Have chips in play that are not in front of you which is allowed
only when waiting for chips that are already purchased
Play the Board
Using all five community cards for your hand in hold'em is
known as 'Play the Board'.
Play Over
To play in a seat when the occupant is away.
Playover Box
A box used to cover and protect the chips of an absent player
when someone plays over that seat.
Pocket Rockets
A pair of aces in the hole.
Position
The relation of a player's seat to the blinds or the button.
It can also be the order of acting on a betting round or deal.
Post
To put in a blind bet, generally required when you first sit
down in a cardroom game. You may also be required to post a blind
if you change seats at the table in a way that moves you away from
the blinds.
Pot
The money or chips in the center of the table.
Pot Odds
The amount of money in the pot compared to the amount you must
put in the pot to continue playing.
Pot Limit
The betting structure of a game in which you are allowed to
bet up to the amount of the pot.
Potting Out
Agreeing with another player to take money out of a pot, often to
buy food, cigarettes, or drinks, or to make side bets.
Price
The pot odds you are getting for a call or draw .
Propasition Bets
Side bets between players that are not related to the outcome of
the playing hand.
Protected Hand
A hand of cards that the player is physically holding, or has
topped with a chip or some other object to prevent a soiled hand.
Push
When a new dealer replaces an existing dealer at a particular
table.
Pushing Bets
The situation in which two or more players make a pact to return
bets to each other when one of them wins a pot in which the other
or others play. These are also called saving bets.
