A
Aces Up
Two pair, a pair of Aces and any other pair of cards.
An Ace Working
An ace in hand.
Action
A fold, check, call, bet, or raise. For certain situations, doing
something formally connected with the game that conveys information
about your hand may also be considered as having taken an action.
Active Player
A player which is still involved in a hand.
Aggresive Action
A wager that could enable a player to win a pot without a
showdown, like a raise or bet.
All In
When you have put all of the money you are playing with and
chips into the pot during the course of a hand, you are said to
be all-in.
All Blue
A flush that contains either clubs or spades.
All Pink
A flush that contains either diamonds or hearts.
Ante
A small portion of a bet contributed by each player to build
the pot at the beginning of a poker hand. Most hold'em games do
not have an ante; they use "blinds" to get first money
into the pot.

B
Backdoor
This is aking a hand that the player wasn't drawing at.
Back Door Flush
When the last two cards make a player's hand, even though
they have played on the flop for some other reason.
Bad Beat
To have a hand which is a large underdog beat a heavily favored
hand by pure luck.
Back Raise
To reraise another players raise
Bankroll
This is the amount of money you have available to wager.
Bet
A bet is placing a wager in turn into the pot on any betting
round, or the chips put into the pot.
Bicycle
The Bicycle is the lowest possible hand in lowball: Ace-2-3-4-5.
It is also called a wheel.
Big Blind
The biggest regular blind in a game.
Big Slick
The Ace & King card combination.
Blank
A board card that doesn't seem to affect the standings in
the hand
Blind
A bet made before any cards are dealt, which is required.
Blind Raise
When a player raises without first looking at his or her
cards.
Bluff
To bet or raise with a hand that is unlikely to be the best
hand.
Board
All the community cards in a hold'em game - the flop, turn,
and river cards together.
Board Card
A community card in the center of the table, as in hold'em
or Omaha Poker.
Boat
Boat is another name for full house.
Broadway
An ace high straight.
Bottom Pair
A pair with the lowest card on the flop. If you have As-5s,
and the flop comes Kd-Th-5c, you have flopped bottom pair.
Boxed Card
A card that appears faceup in the deck where all other cards
are facing down.
Broken Game
A game no longer in action.
Bullet
Another name for Ace.
Bump
To raise.
Burn
To discard the top card from the deck, face down. This is
done between each betting round before putting out the next community
card.This is security against any player recognizing the next
card to be used on the board.
Buried Pair
In stud games, a pair in the hole.
Bust
A useless hand that has failed to improve as the player hoped.
- a busted hand.
Button
A white acrylic disk to indicate who is the dealer. It is
also used to refer to the player on the button.
Button Games
Games in which a dealer button is used.
Buy In
The minimum amount of money required to enter any game.

California Lowball
Ace-to-five lowball with a joker.
Call
This is to match, rather than raise, the previous bet.
Calling Station
A weak player who calls a lot, but doesn't raise or fold much.
Capped
This describes the situation in limit poker in which the
maximum number of raises on the betting round have been reached.
Cards Speak
The face value of a hand in a showdown is the true value
of the hand, regardless of a verbal announcement.
Case
The last card of a certain rank in the deck.
Cash In
To leave the game and convert one's chips to cash, either with
the dealer or at the cashier.
Center Pot
The first pot created during a poker hand. This is also known
as the main pot.
Check
To not bet, with the option to call or raise later in the betting
round.
It is also another word for "chip", as in poker chip.
Check Raise
To waive the right to bet until a bet has been made by an opponent,
and then to increase the bet by at least an equal amount when
it is your turn to act.
Cheese
A very substandard starting hand.
Cold Call
Cold Call is to call more than one bet in a single action.
Cold Deck
A fixed deck.
Collection
The fee charged in a game, either out of the pot or from
each player.
Collection Drop
A fee charged for each hand that is dealt.
Color Change
requesting to change the chips from one denomination to another.
Come
Playing a worthless hand in the hope of improving it is a
term called "playing on the come."
Come Hand
A Come Hand hand that has not yet been made, requiring one
or more cards from the draw to complete it.
Common Card
A card dealt faceup to be used by all players in the game
at the showdown in the games of stud poker whenever there are
insufficient cards left in the deck to deal each player a card
individually.
Community Cards
The cards dealt faceup in the center of the table that can
be used by all players to form their best hand in the games of
holdem and Omaha Poker.
Complete Hand
A hand that is defined by all five cards like a straight,
flush, full house, four of a kind, or straight flush.
Complete the Bet
To increase an all in bet or forced bet to a full bet in
limit poker.
Connector
A hold'em starting hand in which the two cards are one apart
in rank.
Counterfeit
To make your hand less valuable because of board cards that
copy it.
Cowboy
This is another name for a King.
Crack
To beat a hand is usually a big hand.
Cripple
As in to cripple the deck. This means that you have most
or all of the cards that somebody would want to have with the
current board.
Cut
To divide the cards into two sections in such a manner as
to change the order of the deck.
Cut Card
Another meaning for the bottom card.

Dead Card
A card
Dead Collection Blind
A fee posted by the player having the dealer button, used
in some games as an alternative method of renting a seat.
Dead Hand
A hand that is not legal to play.
Dead Money
This is money put into the pot by players who have already
folded.
Deal
To deal is to give each player cards, or put cards on the
board.
Dealer Button
A flat disk that indicates the player who would be in the
dealing position for that hand. This is usually just called "the
button."
Dealer's Choice
A game in which each dealer, in turn, chooses the type of
poker that is to be played.
Deal Off
To take all the blinds and the button before changing seats
or leaving the table. That is, participate through all the blind
positions and the dealer position.
Deal Twice
When there is no more betting, agreeing to have the rest
of the cards to come determine only half the pot, removing the
cards, and dealing again for the other half of the pot.
Deck
A set of playing-cards..
Deuce
A two which the lowest ranking card in high poker.
Discard
In a draw game, to throw cards out of your hand to make room
for replacements, or the card or cards thrown away.
Dog
Short for "Underdog".
Dominated Hand
A hand that will almost always lose out to a better hand
that people usually play.
Down Cards
Cards that are dealt facedown in a stud game.
Draw
The poker form where players are given the opportunity to
replace cards in the hand.
Draw Dead
Try to make a hand that, even if played, will not win the
pot.
Draw Out
To improve your hand so that it beats another player in the
game who had a better hand than yours prior to your draw.
Draw Poker
A form of poker in which each player receives five cards
and then has the option of discarding one or more of them and
receiving new cards in exchange.
Drop
Another term for 'fold'.
